I recently graduated from college this past year and I wanted to share a few tips for soon-to-be college graduates that I have found very useful.
1. Start looking for a job while still in school!
- Create a LinkedIn account & start making connections within your area of expertise and interests
- Get your resume updated and write out a general cover letter
- Meet with your school’s career center for job searching help, resume editing, & interviewing tips
2. Living at home with your parents is OKAY!
- You’ll save money on living expenses.
- Get ahead on those student loan payments.
- And get to spend some more quality time with the family.
3. Set up an emergency fund and start paying off those loans.
- Check out Dave Ramsey’s Tips on how to get out of debt and stay debt-free. Start with The 7 Baby Steps and the Debt Snowball methods.
4. Understand that your first job out of college is usually not going to be your dream job.
- Don’t be discouraged if your first job out of school is less than satisfactory, we all have to start somewhere.
- Take a job that will challenge you, build skills, and get your foot in the door.
- Make where you are worthwhile and set you up for future opportunities.
5. Keep networking with those within your company and outside.
- You never know what connections you’ll make if you don’t approach every opportunity and conversation with a driven and open attitude.
6. Be patient with the process, the right doors will open in due time.
Your blog inspires me! Great tips
