Tips for soon-to-be College Grads

I recently graduated from college this past year and I wanted to share a few tips for soon-to-be college graduates that I have found very useful.

1. Start looking for a job while still in school!

  • Create a LinkedIn account & start making connections within your area of expertise and interests
  • Get your resume updated and write out a general cover letter
  • Meet with your school’s career center for job searching help, resume editing, & interviewing tips

2. Living at home with your parents is OKAY!

  • You’ll save money on living expenses.
  • Get ahead on those student loan payments.
  • And get to spend some more quality time with the family.

3. Set up an emergency fund and start paying off those loans.

4. Understand that your first job out of college is usually not going to be your dream job.

  • Don’t be discouraged if your first job out of school is less than satisfactory, we all have to start somewhere.
  • Take a job that will challenge you, build skills, and get your foot in the door.
  • Make where you are worthwhile and set you up for future opportunities.

5. Keep networking with those within your company and outside.

  • You never know what connections you’ll make if you don’t approach every opportunity and conversation with a driven and open attitude.

6. Be patient with the process, the right doors will open in due time.
