Getting to Germany🇩🇪

Momma and I arrived to Hamburg, Germany on Wednesday the 5th of September and it was quite the journey traveling!

Our first flight to Frankfurt was delayed two and a half hours due to an aircraft and airline switch last minute. It was quite the struggle trying to get seats together on the plane because the airline’s check-in system did not allow for chosen seat assignments. Our flight to Frankfurt was about 12 hours and I was so glad it was an overnight flight so I could sleep and try to get ahead of the Jetlag! One of the cons of the airline we flew with was no personal TV sets for watching movies throughout the long flight. Luckily, I pre-downloaded a few movies and TV episodes on my Netflix account.

We arrived late into Frankfurt airport in which we had to hustle to our connecting flight. The airbus (plane) dropped us off on the tarmac and we took a ten minute shuttle to the main airport terminal in which we had to go through security again and then run to our next gate. Me being my forgetful self put my backpack with all my electronics inside through the security belt and security had to search through my entire backpack, which took ten minutes alone. We had just missed our next flight by the time we got down to the gate. Conveniently, the airline had already booked us on the next flight out to Hamburg.

The flight to Hamburg from Frankfurt was only about an hour long and once we arrived, we gathered all my luggage pieces from baggage claim and then set off to figure out the train system around the city. It was a challenge seeing as we don’t know German and everything was spoken and written in German; we asked so many people questions about which trains and stops to get on and off at! After about a half-hour train ride we finally made it to our stop where our Airbnb was: Reeperbahn.

Reeperbahn in known as the red-light district in Hamburg, Germany. It was definitely very different experiencing the legalization of prostitution in Germany. The street (Reeperbahn) we housed on was all small, tourist shops, pubs, clubs and brothels; there was never a dull moment our entire stay! The streets were dead during the weekdays but roared to life around 9pm every night!

Stay tuned for my next blog post about the sights and adventures we experienced while we stayed in Hamburg for a few days!!
