So I made a personal goal at the beginning of the year to read at least 6 books this year. And I did it!!
Here is a quick review of each of the books I read 🙂
My Policeman by Bethan Roberts –
This book was an easy read! It discusses the hardships of non-traditional relationships set in the 1950’s in England. It follows the love-triangle between an elementary schoolteacher named Marion, a policeman named Tom, and a museum curator named Patrick. Also, the movie came out this last year too!
Hello Now by Jenny Valentine –
I picked this one up from a bookstore in Southern California earlier this year on a whim and I finished it within a couple of days. This book was trippy at the beginning but had a lovely plot overall! It describes the ever-changing life of a teenage boy who has trouble making friends as his mom moves them around constantly. He meets another young boy who teaches him to live in every Now moment and appreciate all of the small, beautiful things life has to offer, though they may be fleeting.
In Watermelon Sugar by Richard Brautigan –
This short book was a bit confusing in the beginning but it ended up being a great read! It’s about a post apocalyptic world in which everything is made in watermelon sugar.
The Portrait of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde –
This one is a classic and for good reason! The diction was beautiful throughout the story and fit the characters personalities so well. We love an Oscar Wilde story.
Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover –
This novel was so beautifully written! It was painstakingly lovely. The plot had almost every type of scenario you could think to put into a single book and it made for a good story.
It Ends with Us by Colleen Hoover –
This book was great! The book touches on some heavier topics within family units, but the character development is amazing. I can’t wait to read the second book that came out this last October!
Violet Bent Backwards Over The Grass by Lana Del Rey –
Miss Lana is a legend when it comes to writing song lyrics and her personal poetry book was nothing short of beauty. Just like her music, her written words had a solemn flow that relates personally with the reader in one way or another. I always feel like Lana puts my own thoughts and feelings into words, definitely better than I ever could. The book is also filled with her own original photography which was a nice insight into her life thru her eyes.
I am currently reading Confess by Colleen Hoover and it’s interesting so far! I guess I’m on a Colleen Hoover kick currently, and she is a wonderful author, so I’m thriving!
What are some of your favorite books you’ve read this past year?
Love & Kindness always.
