🔱🌊Neptune Day💋🐟

On the 2nd of October, 2018 our exquisite vessel, MV World Odyssey, crossed the Equator on our way from Ghana to South Africa. We had a full day of activities to partake in while we transitioned from pollywogs to Emerald Shellbacks.

We were startled awake at 7am by the staculty and crew members parading through our cabin hallways dressed in white robes and bright green wigs while banging on pans, blowing horns and shaking tambourines. It was quite the wake-up call! We were then used through the breakfast line on the cafeteria and instructed to get our bathing suits on and head up to the Lido deck and gather around the pool.

The Neptune Day rituals we all partook in consisted of being dumped on with fish slime and swimming across the pool, which was dyed green to reach King Neptune and his mighty fish. After climbing out of the pool, we then were face-to-face with a fish awaiting a smooch. After kissing the fish, we kissed King Neptune’s ring and paid our respects and love to his beautiful Queen then made our way across the bridge to be knighted and granted the title of Emerald Shellbacks.

Optional, some newly-granted Emerald Shellbacks shaved their heads to commemorate the ceremony. I undoubtedly opted out of the head-shaving but I watched as a fair handful of my friends shaved their heads with huge grins plastered across their faces!

The rest of the day was spent enjoying the sunshine as we passed over the equator and excitedly looked forward to reaching South Africa!
