🌊Plankton Tow

For my ecology class we conducted a Plankton Tow for an experiment. We dragged a net with a collecting tube attached to the end of the cone-snapped net behind the ship to collect water samples. After we collected a few samples we brought them back inside to our classroom to look at through microscopes. Our group looked at our water sample under both UV light and normal, white light. The UV light reacted with the contents of our seawater sample chemically and rapidly underwent photosynthesis. While the chemical reaction continued it turned out water sample darker and darker yellow. We did have a few plankton in our water sample but the chemical reaction had unfortunately killed off any living organisms in our seawater sample.

I have attached a few pictures and a video below from our Plankton Tow lab experiment, check them out!
