In Valencia, a group of us set out to see the city center and walk through a few cathedrals. The architecture was just as intricate and beautiful as it was in Barcelona. I walked through the city center with my eyes to the sky so I wouldn’t miss any of the interesting moldings atop the buildings! The cathedrals we walked through were each unique pieces of art and filled with so much history of time eras, religions and art movements. I was numbed I wasn’t able to stop in and view the Holy Grail in the Cathedral of Valencia but my friends sent me a picture when they visited it. Our group also walked through the Market Square and got to experience all of the bright Spanish colors and exotic smells of traditional delicacies, which consisted of a lot of seafood.
For lunch, a local recommended us try a paella restaurant down by the beach, it was called La Pepica. We tried the Paella de Valenciana and it was amazing! The Valencia Paella was a flavored rice dish with various vegetables, chicken and rabbit meat! It was my first time trying rabbit and it was delicious! It tasted just like chicken but darker meat. After lunch we lounged about the beach and enjoyed the sunshine Spain had to offer us!
Second day of Valencia was spent at the beach again! I am trying to soak up as much beach time and Mediterranean sunshine I can before we reach Asia and get into cooler weather. Auna and I ventured along the boardwalk and stopped in a few stores to shop (shocker) and then met up with our group to have lunch at a Tapas Shop. Surprisingly we didn’t eat any tapas, we had pizza which was so yummy. The pizza on the ship is not very good so I was missing pizza, haha! My favorite memory from Spain would definitely be touring Parc Güell and taking a dip in the Mediterranean Sea!
One of my bucket list items is to swim in all of the world’s seas and oceans, I so far have crossed off 5 of the 7: Pacific, Atlantic, Caribbean, Gulf of Mexico and now Mediterranean!
