We have been docked in Spain for four days. We spent two days in Barcelona and two days in Valencia. It was so nice to be on solid land for a few days while taking in the beautiful architecture and culture of Spain!
Barcelona is home to La Sagrada Familia, a cathedral that has been under initial construction for over 135 years! The architect who visioned up this architectural masterpiece is GaudÃ. He also has worked on many other buildings within the city of Barcelona and has a Park featuring some of his most intriguing work called Parc Güell. I had the opportunity to check out Parc Güell and I got the best view of the city from the hill it was up. I also took a hop-on hop-off bus tour around the city and drove by La Sagrada Familia and many other various historical buildings scattered around Barcelona.
La Sagrada Familia reminds me of candle wax melting down the sides of the main structure. It really is an impressive building and it is no surprise it has been being built for over 135 years! It has also been under construction for so long because after GaudÃ’s death and after the Spanish War broke out, GaudÃ’s study was burnt down along with all of the original plaster models and blueprints inside. I have added some pictures of the city below for you all to check out!
I also checked out Maremagnum which is a shopping center across the harbour from where we docked. It was a large, outdoor shopping mall and we all know how I love my shopping! (Hehe)
My next post will cover what I experienced in Valencia, Spain!!
