Saturday night, mum got to tour The World Odyssey (my home for the next four months) while I went out with a fellow SASer for dinner and wander around the Hamburg Harbour area.
Sunday morning came around as did embarkation day!! I packed up my bags and we took a taxi down to the Ship Terminal. I got all my luggage through security, finished some paperwork and then it was time to say goodbye… I was so sad to be leaving my momma for four months! But am so excited for all of the countries I get to visit and study in this semester. I cannot wait to see what God has in plan for me with all the learning and adventures he has in mind for me through this experience.
My roommates are so sweet! Their names are Errin and Jessie. We are all different majors and from different states so it has been exciting getting to know them and their hometowns and home universities!
The MV World Odyssee is one beautiful vessel! I am still in awe that I get to spend four months on this beautiful ship for college. The professors, staculty (staff & faculty) and crew are all amazing and so excited to embark on this voyage with all of us; we are a little floating community and family traveling the world together.
My classes so far are just as amazing and interesting as the professors who teach them. I sure am learning a lot already and it’s only been 4 days! My field classes and extra field programs are going to be one for the books and I cannot wait to share all of those experiences with you all as they come about.
The first week aboard The MV World Odyssee I got to know quite a bit of my fellow SASers, staculty and crew and we experienced our first rough waters during sailing. The first day of classes was quite rough and had many of the students, including myself, feeling very seasick. We all got through the day and classes with minimal heads in the toilet thankfully! We have also participated in the Clubs Fair and I must have signed up with nearly nine clubs (there were so many interesting options). I am so excited to keep you all updated on which clubs I officially participate in along the Voyage!
We have already sailed through The English Channel and the Straits of Gibraltar on our way to our first port, Barcelona, Spain! Getting to sail through these two major waterways was such a great experience! I loved that I was able to see both England and France on either side of our vessel through The English Channel. It was amazing! The hills and mountains of Morocco were absolutely breathtaking as we went around the Strait of Gibraltar and Mount Gibraltar was massive! I have included some pictures of those two passages that I think you’ll enjoy!
Next post will be covering my time spent in Spain!
